Section 15

Doors, Gates, Stop-logs

Supply and installation of 159 special doors and 24 gates | supply and installation of stop-logs (flood protection) | supply of roller pallets
ARGE ALPTRANSIT BRENNER supplies and fits mainly special doors and gates in Section 15.

Airlock doors in the rescue tunnels and crossways

Most of the special doors are for the airlock systems. These systems are an important safety feature in the escape and rescue routes. In the event of fire, they protect the rescue tunnels from dangers in the main tunnel. The ventilation systems in Section 17 create overpressure in the airlocks so that, in the event of fire, smoke and noxious gases are prevented from entering the escape and rescue routes - even if an airlock door is open.

The pressure in the airlock is limited to 75 Pa to allow the airlock doors to be unlocked and opened without excessive force.

These special doors are fire doors class EI290-C, which also must be able to withstand aerodynamic loads of up to 280 km/h (pressure impulses of +/- 7.5 kN/m²). They are fitted with panic locks and a self-closing mechanism.
The opening of an airlock door triggers an alarm in the central control room. The alarm also initiates the ventilators and associated equipment controlled from the central control room.

Miscellaneous special doors

  • Special doors for electrical systems
  • Access doors into the tunnel – Brixlegg West rescue tunnel
  • Flood protection doors in the Terfens gallery
  • Ventilator airlock doors

Miscellaneous gates

  • Gates in the entry ramps to the rail tunnel
  • Lattice gate for entry ramps to troughs
  • Entry gates to rescue tunnels

The following further items – supply and installation - are also provided in Section 15:

  • Stop-logs: 8 mobile stop-log systems protect the tunnel and troughs from filling with flood water from the Inn Valley. During times of flood they can be placed in the tunnel entrances over the track.
  • Roller pallets: These pallets run on the rails in the tunnel system and are provided as an additional and simple means of emergency transport.
